Westfield Municipal Building, located at 59 Court Street in Westfield, Massachusetts, is a Romanesque Revival structure designed by the architectural firm Hartwell and Richardson and completed in 1889. Originally built to house the state normal school (now Westfield State University), the building was acquired by the city in 1959 and now serves as the municipal office and local district court. Constructed of red brick with brownstone trim on a granite foundation, the L-shaped building features a 140-foot front façade punctuated by two entrances set beneath characteristic Richardsonian arches, with additional openings on the east and rear elevations. The original interior accommodated reception areas, classrooms, laboratories, a principal's office, and an assembly hall capable of seating approximately 175 students, along with a basement gymnasium. Though the exterior remained largely unmodified following the city's acquisition, the interior underwent extensive remodeling to accommodate municipal and court functions. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978 and later as part of the expanded Westfield Center Historic District in 2013.
