Completed in 1989 at Ohio State University in Columbus, the Wexner Center for the Arts is a multidisciplinary laboratory for contemporary art designed by architect Peter Eisenman. Functioning as a public gallery and experimental space rather than a traditional art museum, it does not collect work but stewards a permanent collection of approximately 3,000 artworks inherited from the University Gallery of Fine Arts, which it replaced. The center serves Ohio State students and scholars as well as the general public, programming exhibitions and events across visual, media, and performing arts. Named in honor of the father of Limited Brands founder Leslie Wexner, a principal donor, the building opened to the public in November 1989.
