The Weisman Art Museum, located at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, originated in 1934 as the University Gallery before occupying an upper floor of Northrop Auditorium. In 1993, the institution relocated to its current building, a design by Canadian-born American architect Frank Gehry, and was renamed to honor art collector and philanthropist Frederick R. Weisman. The museum's collection of over 20,000 works encompasses traditional Korean furniture and significant holdings of modern American art, including prominent pieces by Marsden Hartley, Alfred Maurer, and Charles Biederman.
