The Milwaukee Art Museum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is the largest art museum in the state, housing nearly 35,000 works across 150,000 square feet of gallery space. Originating from the 1888 merger of the Layton Art Gallery and Milwaukee Art Institute, the institution moved into Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen's Milwaukee County War Memorial in 1957. The museum's most distinctive addition is Santiago Calatrava's Quadracci Pavilion, an acclaimed high-tech structure inaugurated in 2001, followed by the East End entrance in 2015. The collection encompasses American Ashcan School paintings, decorative arts, 19th-century German art, German Expressionism, folk and Haitian art, and one of the largest holdings of Georgia O'Keeffe works in the country. Ranked among the nation's top ten art museums by USA Today in 2024, MAM stands as a major cultural institution in the Midwest.
