The William Edwards Farmhouse stands near Cincinnati in Newtown, Ohio, a two-and-a-half-story brick residence built in 1840 on a limestone foundation. Constructed for William Edwards on land his father Isaac had acquired in the Virginia Military District, the house represents a blend of Greek Revival style with unconventional features, notably a gambrel roof that departs from strict Greek Revival orthodoxy. The brick structure replaced a log cabin that had grown inadequate for the family's needs. Within forty years of its completion, the 1881 History of Hamilton County recognized it as a mansion, and later architectural historians acclaimed it as one of Anderson Township's finest examples of early agricultural architecture. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989 along with a single outbuilding, it remains a significant local landmark.
