Located in Waterloo, Seneca County, New York, the William H. Burton House is a 2½-story Renaissance Revival residence that exemplifies mid-nineteenth-century architectural evolution. Originally constructed as a Federal-style home in the 1830s, the building was remodeled around 1870 into its present Italianate character, distinguished by a hipped roof and cupola. The structure features a three-bay offset front entrance with two rear wings. In 1965, the Waterloo Library and Historical Society acquired the house to preserve collections and memorabilia commemorating Waterloo's pivotal role in the establishment of Memorial Day in 1866. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996 and now operates as the National Memorial Day Museum.
