Built in 1889 in Woodstock, Illinois, the Opera House was designed by architect Smith Hoag and constructed by contractor Simon Brink at a cost of $25,000 as a multi-purpose civic building. Originally housing city administration offices alongside police and fire departments, the structure has evolved into a dedicated performance venue, still owned by the City of Woodstock today. The building gained additional cultural significance in 2013 when its stage was dedicated to Orson Welles, who grew up in Woodstock and performed there during his early years. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Opera House remains an important architectural and cultural landmark.
