The Surb Astvatsatsin Church (Holy Mother of God Church), also known as Yeghipatrush Church, stands in the village of Yeghipatrush in Aragatsotn Province, Armenia. Built between the 10th and 13th centuries in Armenian architectural tradition, it forms part of a significant ecclesiastical complex that includes the ruins of a 5th-century basilica and a 13th-century double-khachkar shrine. The church's most distinctive feature is its 12th- to 13th-century roofless gavit—a structure unique in Armenian architecture for its watchtowers positioned at the northeast and southeast corners, an unusual defensive addition to the twelve-column interior hall. The gavit's western portal displays Islamic architectural influence, featuring a decorative archway topped by an equilateral pointed arch and framed by geometric patterning, establishing Yeghipatrush as a testament to medieval Armenian building traditions and cross-cultural architectural exchange.
