A 260-metre, 57-storey skyscraper designed by Denton Corker Marshall and completed in March 1991, 101 Collins Street stands in Melbourne's central business district. The tower briefly held the title of Australia's tallest building before being surpassed by 120 Collins Street later that year. Its site was created by demolishing the CRA Building, marking the city's first skyscraper demolition. The foyer was designed by postmodern pioneer John Burgee following a developer change. The building distinguishes itself through unusually generous floor-to-ceiling heights of 2.77 metres and advanced glazing features, including double-layered tempered glass with surface coatings for thermal efficiency. Its 30-metre-tall lifts reach speeds of 7 metres per second, while 414 underground car parking spaces serve the 83,000 square metres of rentable floor space. The owners have strategically acquired neighbouring properties to preserve southern views, inadvertently spurring the emergence of restaurants and bars along Flinders Lane.
