A 40-story office tower in downtown Philadelphia designed by EwingCole and completed in 1972, 1818 Market Street stands as a prominent International Style skyscraper. Built by developer Walters Associates with a construction budget of $50 million, the building held the distinction of being Philadelphia's tallest structure erected between the completion of City Hall in 1901 and One Liberty Place in 1987—a span of 86 years during which an unofficial "gentlemen's agreement" restricted heights to the brim of the William Penn statue atop City Hall. The structure contains over 981,000 square feet of office space across 37 floors, along with six levels of parking, and is currently the city's tallest reinforced-concrete building. Its signature white color resulted from facade treatment in the early 1990s, followed by substantial renovations in 2003. A major tenant base includes ABN Amro, WSFS Bank, Booz Allen Hamilton, and several other corporations. Following its sale to Shorenstein Properties in 2015 for $184.8 million, WSFS Bank added its logo to the building's crown in 2019.
