One Liberty Plaza, a 54-story International Style skyscraper in Lower Manhattan's Financial District, was designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and completed in 1973. Rising 226 meters (743 feet), the building occupies a prominent block bounded by Broadway, Liberty Street, Church Street, and Cortlandt Street, on sites formerly occupied by the Singer Building and City Investing Building. Its defining feature is a black facade of exposed structural steel framing. At 2.3 million square feet, the building offers nearly one acre of office space per floor, ranking it among New York's largest by usable interior space. Originally commissioned by U.S. Steel and later headquarters to Merrill Lynch, the building has been owned and operated by Brookfield Properties since 2001. Zuccotti Park, located directly south, was formerly known as Liberty Plaza Park.
