Located in Boston's Back Bay district, 500 Boylston Street is a 1.3-million-square-foot postmodern tower completed in 1989 and designed by John Burgee Architects with Philip Johnson. Sited prominently next to the landmark Trinity Church, the $100 million building dominates the western portion of the block bounded by Boylston, Clarendon, and Berkeley streets. Its program combines retail and small office space on the first six floors with a 19-story Class A office tower above, providing roughly 715,000 square feet of office space. The structure includes an underground parking facility for 1,000 vehicles shared with the adjacent 222 Berkeley Street, and forms part of the city's High Spine.
