Stadium Australia, designed by BVN Architecture and Populous, opened in 1999 at Sydney Olympic Park and served as the primary venue for the 2000 Summer Olympics. Originally featuring a capacity of 115,000 spectators, it was the largest Olympic stadium ever constructed and Australia's largest stadium at the time; subsequent reconfiguration work reduced capacity to 80,000 and introduced movable seating to convert between rectangular and oval configurations. Built at a cost of $690 million, the multi-purpose venue hosted the opening and closing ceremonies, athletics, and the football final during the 2000 Games. Today, operating under naming rights as Accor Stadium, it primarily hosts rugby league as home ground for the South Sydney Rabbitohs and Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, annually stages the NRL Grand Final, and regularly accommodates the Australia national rugby union and soccer teams, having also hosted major tournaments including the 2003 Rugby World Cup, 2015 AFC Asian Cup, 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup final, and 2026 AFC Women's Asian Cup final.
