Al-Janoub Stadium, a retractable-roof football venue in al-Wakrah, Qatar, was designed by Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid in collaboration with AECOM and Jain & Partners. Inaugurated on 16 May 2019, it became the second stadium prepared for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The structure showcases Hadid's curvilinear postmodernist and neo-futurist style, its distinctive roof inspired by the billowed sails of traditional dhows once used by regional pearl divers navigating the Persian Gulf. With a capacity reduced to 20,000 following the World Cup (from its original 40,000), the stadium serves as the official home of Al-Wakrah SC and hosts Qatar Stars League matches, located approximately 22 kilometres south of Doha.
