Located in Doha, the National Museum of Qatar opened to the public on 28 March 2019, succeeding an earlier museum that had operated since 1975. Designed by renowned French architect Jean Nouvel, the building takes inspiration from the desert rose crystal, a mineral formation native to Qatar. Constructed from ultra-high performance fiber-reinforced concrete and steel, the museum integrates Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani's palace at its core—a structure central to Qatari national identity—creating a contemporary architectural statement that bridges Qatar's heritage with modern design.
