Amerongen Castle, located in Amerongen in the Utrechtse Heuvelrug region of the Netherlands, is a château rebuilt between 1674 and 1680 by architect Maurits Post on the site of a medieval fortification destroyed by French forces in 1673. Now a museum and designated Rijksmonument, the castle retains historic garden features including a conservatory from the 1890s. The castle holds significant twentieth-century history: in 1918, the abdicated German Kaiser Wilhelm II signed his abdication documents here and remained in residence until 1920, when he relocated to Huis Doorn.
