The Kavanagh Building, a residential skyscraper in the Retiro district of Buenos Aires, stands as a masterwork of modernist design. Completed in 1936 by architects Gregorio Sánchez, Ernesto Lagos, and Luis María de la Torre, this 120-meter tower combines rationalism with Art Deco aesthetics and was revolutionary for its time: upon inauguration, it became the tallest building in Latin America and the world's tallest structure of reinforced concrete construction. The building has earned iconic status among porteños, ranking highest in a 2013 public survey of beloved Buenos Aires structures. Recognized as a Historic Civil Engineering Landmark by the American Society of Civil Engineers in 1994 and designated a National Historic Monument of Argentina in 1999, the Kavanagh remains a quintessential expression of early twentieth-century modernist ambition.
