The Atiq Jameh Mosque of Shiraz is the oldest mosque in Shiraz, the capital of Ostane Fars. Built in the 9th century following the Saffarid dynasty's reconquest of the city from the Abbasid Caliphate by Amr-e Laith Saffari—begun in 276 AH (889/890 CE) and completed in 281 AH (894/895 CE)—it was constructed over a pre-existing religious compound, likely a fire temple. The structure exemplifies Saffarid and later Safavid architectural traditions. Though extensively restored, the present four-iwan courtyard configuration dates primarily from the 17th century and is built of brick, stone, and mortar. At the center of the courtyard stands the Khuda Khane (House of God), a small kiosk commissioned by Inju'id ruler Mahmud Shah in 1351 to house Qur'ans. Today the mosque continues to serve as a Shi'ite Friday mosque and is recognized as an Iranian National Heritage property.
