Benrath Palace is a Baroque pleasure palace in Benrath, now a borough of Düsseldorf, commissioned by the Elector Palatine Charles Theodor and his wife, Countess Palatine Elisabeth Auguste of Sulzbach. Designed by Nicolas de Pigage, the elector's garden and building director, the château was constructed between 1755 and 1770. This Rococo hunting lodge exemplifies the refined taste of eighteenth-century German palatial architecture and has been proposed for designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
