Bent's Opera House stands at 444 Main Street in Medina, New York, a three-story structure of Medina Sandstone built between 1864 and early 1865 for local farmer Don Carlos Bent. Its dedication on February 28, 1865, featured remarks by a Civil War officer and patriotic pageantry. For generations, the opera house on its top floor hosted concerts, plays, and public functions, attracting renowned performers including P. T. Barnum and Buffalo Bill Cody. As twentieth-century entertainment evolved, the venue fell into disuse, though it remained a contributing property to Medina's Main Street Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995. After Bank of America donated the building to a not-for-profit arts organization in 2010, ownership passed to Talis Equity, whose CEO Roger Hungerford has undertaken renovation and adaptation, incorporating restaurant, hotel, and event spaces while preserving the historic structure.
