The Château de Lunéville, located about 35 kilometers east of Nancy in the Lorraine region of France, evolved from a 13th-century hunting lodge into a grand ducal residence. Designed by Nicolas d'Orbay, the palace underwent substantial expansion between 1703 and 1720 under Duke Leopold I of Lorraine, who transformed it into a palace of considerable architectural ambition. It later became a favored residence of Stanislaus I, the former King of Poland and Duke of Lorraine, who added further improvements to the structure and its grounds. Following Lorraine's incorporation into the French crown, the palace was converted to military use and served as a barracks, during which period some buildings were lost. Today owned by the Department Meurthe-et-Moselle since 2017, the château and its gardens are designated as a Monument historique and rank among the region's most visited attractions.
