The Chauncey L. Williams House, built in 1895 at 530 Edgewood Place in River Forest, Illinois, is a residence designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in Roman brick and plaster. One of Wright's earliest Chicago commissions, the house reflects the architect's growing interest in Japanese design—a passion fueled by his collection of Japanese prints. The client, Chauncey L. Williams, was a member of a wealthy Midwestern family engaged in cultural and literary pursuits. Williams and Wright had attended the University of Wisconsin together and remained lifelong friends, collaborating on literary endeavors even as Williams co-founded the Way and Williams publishing firm in 1895.
