Built in 1880, the Church of the Good Shepherd in Maitland, Florida, is a Carpenter Gothic Episcopal church designed by renowned New York architect Charles C. Haight. Located at 331 Lake Avenue in Orange County, the building's board and batten exterior walls and lancet windows exemplify the Carpenter Gothic style, though its belfry, unusually centered over the altar area rather than positioned at the entrance, distinguishes it from typical examples. The church was largely realized through the efforts of the Right Reverend Henry Benjamin Whipple, the first bishop of Minnesota, who wintered in Maitland starting in the 1870s and conducted regular services there throughout his life following the church's consecration on March 17, 1883. A modern companion structure designed by Nils M. Schweizer was added in 1967, after which the original building became a chapel. The 1880 church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.
