The Dervish Pasha Mansion, located in the Arab Ahmet quarter of North Nicosia, is a two-story Ottoman house built in 1801 atop an earlier Gothic structure. Constructed with stone on the lower floor and adobe above, the mansion exemplifies Ottoman domestic architecture through its distinctive plan: separate entrance doors for men (selamlik) and women (harem), a large inner courtyard for private family use, and a Baghdadi-style bay window on the upper story. The ornate wooden ceiling carvings date to an 1869 repair. In the late 19th century, it served the wealthy Turkish Cypriot landowner Hacı Ahmet Derviş Efendi. Facing collapse by 1979, the building was purchased and restored by the Turkish Cypriot state, opening as an ethnographic museum on 21 March 1988—a pioneering preservation effort in Northern Cyprus. Today it displays traditional domestic furnishings, textiles, kitchen implements, and historical artifacts reflecting Ottoman-era Cypriot life.
