The Archbishop's Palace in Nicosia is the official residence and office of the archbishop of Cyprus, constructed between 1956 and 1960 in neo-Byzantine architectural style. Built adjacent to a seventeenth-century predecessor, the palace was designed by George Nomikos in Athens, with architectural supervision by Nicholas S. Roussos and John Pericleous of Limassol. Though the palace itself remains closed to visitors, its grounds house several public institutions: the Byzantine Museum, the Library of the Archbishopric, the Folk Art Museum, and the National Struggle Museum. The grounds formerly displayed a bronze sculpture of Makarios III, the first president of Cyprus—a thirteen-ton work approximately thirty feet tall by sculptor Nikolas Kotziamannis—which was later relocated to the monastery of Kykkos.
