The Dixwell Avenue Congregational United Church of Christ at 217 Dixwell Avenue in New Haven, Connecticut, is a striking example of Brutalist architecture completed in 1969 and designed by architect John M. Johansen. The congregation itself has deep roots in the city, having been founded in 1820 as the African Ecclesiastical Society and remaining a significant institution in New Haven's African-American community throughout its history. The church's bold modernist structure was recognized for its architectural significance when it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2018.
