Sited on 40 acres near Cedar Rapids, the Douglas and Charlotte Grant House is a Frank Lloyd Wright–designed Usonian residence built between 1949 and 1951, with construction extending to around 1960. One of Iowa's earliest houses in this style, completed a year after the Lowell E. Walter House, it exemplifies Wright's principles through its integration with the landscape, generous window walls and horizontal bands of fenestration, open-plan interior with varying ceiling heights, and radiant-heated slab-on-grade construction. The design incorporates natural materials, built-in furnishings, three substantial fireplaces arranged around a central hearth, and a carport instead of a garage. The owners quarried limestone from the property for the dwelling. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.
