The Edward Oakes House stands at 5 Sylvia Road in Medford, Massachusetts, as one of the town's oldest surviving wood-frame structures. Built around 1728, probably by Edward Oakes himself, this 2½-story Georgian house exemplifies early colonial domestic architecture with distinctive period details. Its timber-frame construction features a gambrel roof—an unusual choice for the era—paired with wood shingle siding and a brick foundation. A rear leanto section creates a saltbox silhouette, while the main entrance is distinguished by flanking sidelight windows. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
