The Elliott Street Historic District comprises five blocks of South Elliott Street in Olney, Illinois, a primarily residential neighborhood that has been known as the "Silk Stocking District" since the 1850s. Platted by William Elliott in 1855 following the arrival of the Ohio and Mississippi Railroad, the district contains 33 main buildings, predominantly single-family homes, whose architectural styles reflect the tastes of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including Italianate, Queen Anne, and Georgian Revival. The area was home to several of Olney's pioneers, among them Aaron Shaw, a U.S. Representative who gave the city its name. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on November 26, 1980.
