Emmaus United Methodist Church stands at Morris and West Lawrence streets in Albany, New York, a brick Collegiate Gothic structure completed in 1914. Originally established as Calvary Methodist Episcopal Church, it was built after the congregation relocated from downtown Albany in 1912, when the city acquired their former site for a school. The new building rose in the developing Pine Hills neighborhood, where recently extended streetcar lines were opening the area to suburban growth; the church became a vital civic anchor after the original developer's bankruptcy. The structure remains largely intact. The congregation has undergone several mergers—first with St. Luke's Methodist, then with another Pine Hills church in 1994, adopting its present name. By the early 2000s, the church had become active in resettling refugees and immigrants from Africa and Asia. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.
