Located in the Lisbon parish of São Domingos de Benfica, the Estádio da Luz is the home stadium of Portuguese club Sport Lisboa e Benfica. Opened on 25 October 2003 with an exhibition match against Uruguayan side Nacional, it replaced an earlier stadium of the same name. Designed by HOK Sport Venue Event (now Populous) at a cost of €160 million—including €22.6 million in Portuguese government funding for UEFA Euro 2004—the stadium holds 68,100 spectators and ranks among Europe's largest by capacity. A UEFA category four venue, it has hosted major tournaments including the Euro 2004 final and the 2014 and 2020 UEFA Champions League finals. The stadium was elected Europe's most beautiful in a 2014 L'Équipe online poll and had welcomed over 17 million spectators by its fifteenth anniversary.
