The Fort Garry Hotel, which opened in downtown Winnipeg on December 11, 1913, is a châteauesque hotel designed by the architectural firm Ross and Macdonald and built by the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway. One of Canada's grand railway hotels and the sole surviving example from that era in Winnipeg, it represents an important chapter in the city's early-20th-century development. Designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1981 and a Manitoba Provincial Heritage Site in 1990, the building now operates as the Fort Garry Hotel, Spa and Conference Centre. A national heritage park connecting the hotel to the remains of Upper Fort Garry was completed in 2017–2018, further anchoring its significance to the region's historical landscape.
