The Hotel Macdonald is a grand Châteauesque-style luxury hotel in Edmonton, Alberta, completed in 1915 by the architectural firm Ross and Macdonald. Rising 47.7 metres along 100 Street NW overlooking the North Saskatchewan River, the eleven-storey sandstone structure was built by the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway Company as one of Canada's premier railway hotels. Named for Canada's first prime minister, Sir John A. Macdonald, the hotel opened on 5 July 1915. Following Grand Trunk's 1919 bankruptcy, Canadian National Hotels managed the property and added an expansion wing in 1953, though this extension was demolished in 1983. After restoration and reopening in 1991 under Canadian Pacific Hotels, the building is now managed by Fairmont Hotels and Resorts and remains designated a municipal historic resource.
