The Fountain Hotel is a brick Victorian-era structure built in 1889 in downtown St. Marys, Ohio, combining Queen Anne and Victorian architectural styles. Located in the 100 block of West Spring Street and constructed on a sandstone foundation with an asphalt roof, the building originally functioned as a hotel, specialty store, and restaurant before undergoing conversion in the 1990s by the Muskingum Development Corporation into senior housing for residents aged fifty-five or older at a cost of $2 million to $3 million. The first-story facade contains multiple storefronts, while upper floors now provide affordable housing. The hotel takes its name from an adjacent natural spring, once used to supply water to Fort St. Marys, which was later converted into a fountain. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997, the Fountain Hotel stands among important community landmarks including the municipal building and the Buckeye Trail route along the Miami and Erie Canal.
