Designed and built by architect George F. Loring in 1895, the George Loring House in Somerville, Massachusetts exemplifies the Shingle style aesthetic of the period. The 2½-story wood-frame structure features brick facing on its first floor with wood shingles above, creating a distinctive textural contrast. A central projecting section on the front facade incorporates a second-floor window bay and a polygonally hipped roof dormer, both adorned with diamond mullions that evoke medieval English manor architecture. The combination of these Queen Anne and Shingle style elements gives the residence its characteristic picturesque quality. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989, the house represents a notable example of late-19th-century residential design.
