Built around 1860, the house at 197 Morrison Avenue in Somerville, Massachusetts represents the city's finest example of vernacular Gothic Revival architecture. Constructed of brick in two stories, the dwelling displays characteristic Gothic details including bargeboard decoration in its front gable, a Gothic lancet window, and elaborate front porch ornamentation. Its unusual setback from the street predates the major development that transformed Morrison Avenue in the 1870s, and the house now sits obscured behind a later structure. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989, it stands as a notable example of mid-nineteenth-century eclectic Victorian design.
