Completed in 1906 for rare-book dealer George Millard and his wife Alice, this Prairie School residence at 1689 Lake Avenue in Highland Park, Illinois, exemplifies Frank Lloyd Wright's signature style through its brown-stained board-and-batten facade and hipped roof. The house features a cruciform floor plan encompassing approximately 3,000 square feet with four bedrooms. It was the first of two homes Wright designed for Alice Millard; the second, La Miniatura in Pasadena, California, followed in 1923 after George's death. The Millards occupied the house for six or seven years while preserving its original design. After changing hands multiple times, the property was renovated by the Montenegro family in 1992 and again by the Rothners, who acquired it in 2015 and later donated it to the Jewish Federation in 2019. The house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
