Built between 1903 and 1905 near Ljubljana's central Prešeren Square, the Grand Hotel Union is a four-star hotel and a landmark of Vienna Secession architecture designed by Josip Vancaš. Constructed as part of Mayor Ivan Hribar's urban reconstruction programme following the devastating 1895 earthquake, it served as Ljubljana's first modern hotel and, briefly after completion, the city's largest building. The structure features a nearly 100-metre-long façade and a complex iron roof that was regarded as a technical achievement of its era. Though redecorated twice since opening, the building maintains its original Secession style. The ground floor houses the Café Union, and the hotel is registered as immobile cultural heritage of Slovenia.
