The Grand Théâtre de Genève is a Neoclassical opera house designed by Émile Reverdin and Gaspard André, rising prominently over Place Neuve in Geneva. Officially opened in 1876, it boasts the largest stage in Switzerland. Severely damaged by fire in 1951, the building underwent extensive restoration and reopened in 1962. Today it functions as both a venue and institution—the largest production and host theatre in French-speaking Switzerland—presenting opera, dance, concerts, recitals, and occasional theatrical performances. The building represents a culmination of Geneva's long cultural journey, from its initial resistance to theatre during the Calvinist era through the flourishing of opera under Enlightenment influence.
