Built in 1992 for the Genoa Expo '92 celebrations, the Grande Bigo of Genoa is a striking elevator structure designed by renowned architect Renzo Piano and located in the city's Old Port. Inspired by the form and name of traditional ship-loading cranes (bighi), the structure ingeniously serves dual functions: it houses a rotating panoramic elevator that provides 360-degree views of the city, while simultaneously supporting the canopy of the Piazza delle Feste below. Since its completion, the Bigo has become a principal emblem of Genoa's urban renewal, earning a place in the official logo of the Old Port and establishing itself as one of the city's defining contemporary landmarks.
