Perched 34 metres above the roof of the Lingotto—Fiat's iconic former manufacturing complex in Turin—the Pinacoteca Giovanni e Marella Agnelli opened in 2002 as a modernist jewel designed by Renzo Piano. The 450-square-metre steel pavilion, called Lo scrigno (The Casket), evokes a crystal spaceship, echoing the futuristic vocabulary of the plant below. Housed on the Lingotto's top floor, the gallery preserves the personal art collection of Gianni and Marella Agnelli, featuring major works by Renoir, Manet, Matisse, Canaletto, Tiepolo, Picasso, and Modigliani, alongside sculptures by Canova. The museum also hosts rotating exhibitions of contemporary art, cementing its role as both a repository of private treasures and a vital venue for modern artistic discourse.
