Located at 28 Race Street in Charleston, South Carolina, the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity is a Byzantine Revival structure completed in 1953. Designed by Penn-educated Presbyterian architect Harold Tatum following the traditional Byzantine style as directed by Archbishop Michael of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of North and South America, the church represents a significant achievement in Orthodox sacred architecture in the Western Hemisphere. The iconography was executed by Photios Kontoglou of Athens, Greece, while the distinctive central dome was engineered and built by the Guastavino tile Company of Woburn, Massachusetts. Constructed between 1950 and 1953 to replace an earlier Greek Orthodox church built in Charleston in 1911, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.
