Built in 1937 in Hebron, Nebraska, this post office exemplifies the Moderne architectural style favored during the New Deal era. Designed by Louis A. Simon, the U.S. supervising architect responsible for numerous federal buildings, it features a striking interior mural by artist Eldora Lorenzini, completed in 1939. The mural depicts a dramatic local legend—a stampeding herd of buffalo halting a train—an event claimed to have occurred in the region. The building was recognized as a historic place and added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 11, 1992.
