The United States Post Office in Suffern, New York, located on Chestnut Street in the village's downtown business district, was constructed in 1936 during the New Deal era. Designed by architect Louis A. Simon, the building exemplifies a hybrid architectural approach that combines Colonial Revival elements—favored by the Treasury Department for post offices in the early twentieth century—with the streamlined forms of Streamline Moderne, the predominant style of the late 1930s. Its interior is enriched by a wall relief created by artist Elliot Means, one of numerous public artworks commissioned through the Section of Painting and Sculpture during this period of federal patronage. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.
