Located at 1127 Central in Safford, Arizona, the James R. Welker House is a brick residence built in 1915, combining vernacular construction with Queen Anne stylistic elements including shingle detailing beneath its cornices. The single-family dwelling is set back by a low white picket fence. Built by James Welker, a Mormon merchant who arrived in Safford in 1883 and later served as the city's postmaster in 1939 and on its city council, the house reflects the domesticity of early twentieth-century Arizona settlement. The home was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.
