The Jawatha Mosque, located in the historic Jawatha area approximately 12 kilometers northeast of Hofuf in Al-Ahsa, Saudi Arabia, is recognized as the earliest known mosque built in eastern Arabia. This Sunni Islamic structure fell largely into ruin over time but underwent restoration in 2007 by the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage, employing a design approach similar to that of Riyadh's Masmak Fort. The mosque now forms part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
