The Al-Janad Mosque, located 20 kilometres northeast of Taiz in Yemen, is the oldest surviving mosque in the country and is considered the first mosque ever built. Established by Muadh ibn Jabal in 628 CE (6 AH), it was constructed following the Islamic prophet Muhammad's dispatch of Muadh to Yemen to teach Islamic provisions and spread the faith in accordance with Sharia. Also known as Mu'adh Mosque, it remains one of the most important religious sites in Taiz governorate.
