The Jerusalem Chords Bridge, a striking cable-stayed structure designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, spans the city with a steel frame rising 118 meters high. Completed in 2008, the bridge serves multiple functions: it carries the Jerusalem Light Rail's Red Line, which began operations in August 2011, while also incorporating a glass-sided pedestrian walkway that connects Kiryat Moshe to the Jerusalem Central Bus Station. The distinctive side-spar design—evident in its characteristic cables—reflects Calatrava's signature aesthetic, and the project represented a significant urban infrastructure investment at approximately $70 million.
