The Jin Mao Tower, a 420.5-meter neo-futurist skyscraper completed in 1998 in Shanghai's Lujiazui district, was designed by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill. Rising 88 stories (93 counting the spire), this glass-clad landmark comprises a shopping mall, office space, and the Grand Hyatt Shanghai hotel, which occupies the upper floors beginning at the 53rd level and was the world's highest hotel at the time of its completion. The tower stands as a defining element of Shanghai's iconic Pudong skyline, visible from the Bund alongside other major structures including the Oriental Pearl Tower, Shanghai World Financial Center, and Shanghai Tower.
