Tomorrow Square, completed in October 2003 in Shanghai's Puxi district near People's Square, is a 284.6-meter mixed-use skyscraper designed by John C. Portman Jr. Rising 55 floors, it ranks as the twelfth-tallest building in Shanghai and houses a 342-room JW Marriott hotel, 255 executive apartments, a conference center, shopping center, and subway access. Architecturally distinctive for its composition of two offset prismatic forms—marking the transition between residential and hotel sections—the tower culminates in a peak of four triangles. The structure employs flat slabs for hotel floors and beam-and-slab construction for office levels, while shear walls and frame action provide lateral stability against wind and seismic forces. The building is also notable for containing the world's highest library, located on one of its upper floors. Its deep 80-meter bored piles anchor the tower to a supporting column mat.
